While the NBA and the entity formerly known as “the union” were girding for legal battles, Major League Baseball and the MLB Players’ Association announced the successful completion of a new collective bargaining agreement, meaning that there will be no work stoppages in baseball for at least five years.

Tuesday’s agreement explands the playoff field from 8 teams to 10, establishes blood testing for Human Growth Hormone, and contains new rules intended to create greater competitive balance between large and small market teams.
