Spelling Bees Are For Kids?

Louisville, Kentucky native Emily Foerster brought competitive fun to her hip neighborhood when she started the “Spleling Be“, a spelling contest for adults. Gabe Bullard of WFPL in Louisville, Kentucky reports on the competition that allows community members to get in touch with the ghosts of spelling bees past.

In Lincoln, Nebraska, we’ve had an adult spelling bee held at a bar for 26 years. It’s hugely popular, and the proceeds support a special library collection. Prizes are given for the loudest fans, for the first person to miss a word. For many years t-shirts were printed to celebrate the bee. Our emcee is a former radio announcer, and he adds to the fun.
