The Turners, Jeff and Taylor, embarked on a journey to fish in all 50 states over the course of 50 days. Only A Game’s Gary Waleik caught up with them on the 40th day, and took some photos.

A day at the ballpark can be full of surprises. On any given day, fans could witness a spectacular catch, or even a walk-off hit. Lucky fans might catch a home run ball. But for Bill Littlefield, the surprises are a little more out of the ordinary.

People forget Michelle Wie is only 19-years-old. The golfer has endured a father’s greed, numerous ailments, and the scorn of her peers throughout her career. Author Eric Adelson chronicles her rise and fall in “The Sure Thing: The Making and Unmaking of Golf Phenom Michelle Wie,” a book that leaves open the possibility for a happier and more successful future chapter in Wie’s still young life.

This week on Only A Game, Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice prepare to take their places in Cooperstown’s gallery of heroes and rogues. Also, humans compete with equines at the Vermont 100 Endurance Race, and a tour of the lavish swimming complex commissioned by Benito Mussolini.

The people who brave the Vermont 100 Endurance Race come from different backgrounds and have varying professions, but they characterize themselves as one thing: runners. The race is nearly four times longer than a marathon. Many runners take nearly 30 hours to finish, and they share the course with horses along the way. Only A Game’s Doug Tribou has the story and the photos.

The World Championships in swimming, diving, water polo and synchro are taking place in Rome, but the restoration of Rome’s major sports venue has spurred controversy because of it’s fascist artwork. Only A Game’s Nancy Greenleese and freelance photographer Anthony Majanlahti were there to take pictures.

While reflecting on the credentials of those currently in baseball’s Hall of Fame, Bill sees a blueprint for aspiring future Hall of Famers emerge, and offers his advice. Baseball purists beware.

In “Cooperstown Confidential: Heroes, Rogues, and The Inside Story of The Baseball Hall of Fame,” author Zev Chafets challenges the supposed integrity of baseball’s selection process. Bill notes that the book is more than a commentary on the hypocrisies of the Hall, as Chafets also unearths fascinating stories about some of baseball’s most hallowed figures.
